OFFICIAL CERTIFICATION AND NOTARISATION
Sometimes it’s difficult to know exactly what type of certification will meet the needs for your official translation services.
There are three ways that a translation is certified and notarised in the UK. These are basic certification, sworn certification and legalisation, also known as apostille.
The type of certification you will need depends on what you will be using your translation for.
At Linguist Point, we’re able to offer all levels of certification, as required for our official translation services.
BASIC CERTIFIED TRANSLATION
Basic certification is a letter signed on headed paper, in which our language translation services states that the translation text is complete and correct. This confirms that the translation matches the original document perfecting. Linguist Point’s certified translation services London are recognised by the Home Office, UK Courts and other UK Institutions
SWORN TRANSLATIONS
A Sworn Translation is when both a solicitor and translator sign a declaration, which confirms via Sworn Oath that the translated text is complete and accurate. To confirm this, the solicitor should marks the translation with a certified stamp.
Sworn Translations are official documents, that both public notaries and government bodies accept. It is common to be asked for this type of translation when you are providing official translated documents that confirm your identity
LEGALISATION, OR APOSTILLE
Legalisation, also known as an apostille, is often used for documents that are going to be presented to authorities overseas. It is similar to a Sworn Translation, but in addition to the Sworn Oath provided by the translator and solicitor, the document is checked and signed, or apostilled by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. This means that a translated official document will be accepted by foreign countries, thanks to the Hague Convention.
Only official translation services’ documents issued in the United Kingdom can be apostilled by the Foriegn and Commonwealth Office.
Getting a document apostilled can takes up to four weeks. However, as a leading document translation services , we are able to offer an emergency legalisation service that can take less than a week.
If you’re still unsure about what level of certification your translation needs, we’re always available to provide impartial advice based on your requirements on the phone, or at our office.
